Costs vary depending on whether you  have some type of pool pass or fitness passport .

Active Kids and First Lap vouchers can be used to pay for lessons.

Children not yet attending school will start in our Saturday morning water confidence classes recommencing late January. Please still enrol online so that we have your details when they are ready to move into the next stage of lessons

 

The Yamba Community Heated Swimming Pool has a range of water confidence and learn-to-swim programs to suit your child's ages and stages, from infant to school-age we offer lessons to progress your child's skills in the water.

Infant & Toddler Water Confidence

These lessons are for infants through to children to 5 years of age, using songs, games and fun activities to develop water skills and confidence. Parent/carer must be in the water for the entire lesson. Note: If not fully toilet trained, swimming nappies MUST be worn. Run on Saturday mornings only, these lessons do not require pre-booking. Cost $20 per lesson (includes admission for parent and child) / $12 per lesson for Seasons Pass holders. Lessons will recommence Saturday 13TH JANUARY 2024

Infant Water Introduction
– 0 to 18 months


AIMS to build confidence, introduce movement, and become familiar with getting head wet and submerging, move onto Level 2. For those not yet familiar with the water.

TIME
10:10 – 10:30am  Saturday mornings / 20-minute lesson.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT – Swimming nappies MUST be worn.

Level 1

No enrolment needed

Infant Water Curiosity
– 18 months to 3 years


AIMS to be able to submerge happily, kick on front and back, move through the water assisted, move onto Level 3. For children who are familiar with getting face wet and being immersed.

TIME
9:30 – 10:00am  Saturday mornings / 30-minute lesson.

Level 2

No enrolment needed

Crabs – 3 to 5 years


AIMS to build confidence, put eyes and ears in water, blow bubbles, open eyes under water, float on front and back supported, introduce movement, and become familiar with getting head wet and submerging. For children with little water experience, confidence or skills.

TIME
10:40 – 11:10am Saturday mornings / 30-minute lesson.

Level 3

No enrolment needed

Pre-School Age Water Confidence Classes

For children aged 3 to 5 years old, these classes develop water confidence, independence, and survival swimming skills to help your child progress to school age Learn-to-Swim classes. Note: If not fully toilet trained, swimming nappies MUST be worn. These classes are held in Terms 1 & 4, they run for 8 weeks and it is recommended to do 2 classes a week.

Starfish – 3 to 5 years


AIMS to be able to submerge happily, blow bubbles, kick on front and back, float independently, fall in and return to edge, use a streamlined position, move through the water unassisted for 1 to 4 metres. Progress to Seahorses or Tadpoles, depending on age. (Transition group – Parent/Carer may be asked to assist).

DAYS
Monday - Friday mornings / 30-minute lesson.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT – Goggles. OPTIONAL – Swim cap, tight-fitting wet-suit on cold or windy days.

Level 1

Seahorses – 3 to 5 years


AIMS to blow bubbles, complete a timed float independently, use a streamlined position, kick on front and back, fall in and return to edge with confidence, move independently to 4 metres, movement with kickboard to 5m, introductory freestyle movements. Progress to Frogs. (Without Parent/Carer in the water).

DAYS
Monday - Friday mornings / 30-minute lesson.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT – Goggles. OPTIONAL – Swim cap, tight-fitting wet-suit on cold or windy days.

Level 2

School Age Learn-to-Swim

For school-aged children from 6 to 12 years. These classes run for 30 minutes and provide instruction for all abilities, from water confidence through to competition level swimming. These classes are held in Terms 1 & 4, they run for 8 weeks and it is recommended to do 2 classes a week.

AIMS to build child's confidence to put eyes and ears in water, blow bubbles, open eyes under water, front and back float unassisted, fall in & return to edge with confidence, use a streamlined position, move 5 metres independently with face in water. For those who are not able to swim yet or are not happy in the water or putting their face in. (3 or 4 children).

DAYS
Monday - Friday.

Level 1

Frogs


AIMS to teach bilateral breathing, a good strong correct kick front & back; introduce correct arm movements front & back; be able to swim freestyle 8m with side breathing, style and confidence; learn introductory breaststroke and backstroke; tread water. For those who are confident, can put their face in the water, can kick with a kick-board, and can move through the water for at least 5m. (4 children).

Monday - Friday.

AIMS to develop 15m good freestyle (confidence and style) with good bilateral breathing and timing, 10m good backstroke, 10m good breaststroke, introductory butterfly, introductory diving, basic rescue techniques. For those who can swim freestyle with side breathing, correct arm movements and reasonable timing of bilateral breathing for 8m. (4 children).

DAYS
Monday - Friday.

Dolphins


AIMS to develop further skills for stamina and distance (25m) in freestyle, breaststroke & backstroke. Develop good butterfly for 15m. Tread water, dive correctly, perform basic rescues and safety step. All to be demonstrated with confidence and using correct technique.

REQUIREMENTS must be able to swim 15m freestyle, 10m backstroke & breaststroke correctly, and basic skills for butterfly. (4 children).

DAYS
Monday - Friday.

Sharks Mini Squad


AIMS to refine and strengthen strokes, build up stamina for 25m correct butterfly and 75m for freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke.

REQUIREMENTS must be able to swim 25m freestyle, breaststroke & backstroke with confidence and correct technique, and 15m basic butterfly. (Up to 6 children).

DAYS
Monday - Friday.

INTRO COACHING Level 1

Marlins Mini Squad


AIMS to refine and strengthen strokes, build up stamina for 200m each stroke,except butterfly, 1 to 2km total swim. Progress to morning Junior Squad Training sessions.

REQUIREMENTS must be able to swim 75m freestyle, breaststroke & backstroke with confidence and correct technique, and 25m butterfly. (Up to 8 children).
